Studio Brief 03: Introductory Exercise OUGD403

In order to get to know each other in the most direct manor we were given a list of questions to ask one another. The person I am creating a font to represent is called Mo and his answers were as follows:

When are you happiest?
-When surrounded by friends and family, familiar people and relaxed situations.

What is your greatest fear?
-Sharks, no encounter with them it's just the way they look that scares him.

Where is your favourite place in the world?
-Hawaii (it just seems like an idilic place) the tropical warm ideal basically.

What is your earliest memory?
-Playing with his uncles dog, which he felt embodied his uncle's personality.

What is your most embarrassing moment?
-Wetting the bed around a friends house after a night out (made worse by the fact that he was 20 at the time).

What makes you unhappy?
-Having a load of work to do, academic work is the worst because he feels it stops him from enjoying life and really living it.

Who would play you in the film of your life?
-Leonardo Di Caprio, just because he is one of Mo's favourite actors.
-Idris Elba, because he is from hackney which is near where Mo is from.

What is your favourite smell?
-Petrol, that moment when you first smell it.

What is your favourite word?
-Wavy, London dialect which generally means something is good.

What would be your fancy dress option of choice?
-Not really that into fancy dress he would be the kind of guy who turned up as himself.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?
-The tv show made in chelsea.

How do you relax?
-X-box.

If you could edit your past, what would you change?
-Grow up sooner. He caused a lot of trouble at a young age and got kicked out of school.

These questions got us talking more and thought of a few more questions such as dream job, which was astronaut.
-music preferences, which include hip hop and old school rap
-film preferences, thrillers mostly but generally he is a big fan of film of al sorts.
His pastimes include rock climbing that he hasn't done since he got to leeds mostly because his social life has taken president.

We also took samples of one another's handwriting, the pictures of which can be found below.
The main directions I am thinking of going in as a result of this session are:
-the concept of the city and what defines a city (because where he is from has shaped him as a person).
-Architecture and buildings.
-social lettering that reacts to the other letters around it.
-confident font with a strong presence.
-Film as an inspirational starting point, how it functions and cinema as an experience.
