OUGD405 Studio Brief 02 Insect Proximity to Humans

Below are detailed the most commonly found insects in the home. The combination of small size and large numbers is something that has popped up repeatedly during my research as a reason for our fear of insects. The fact that they could be everywhere and we would have no idea is a scary one, especially because they can pose a health threat. the dust mite can cause asthma attacks and rashes and the bed bug actually feeds off human blood! The reason this is scary could be the fact that if we don't know if it is happening, how can we defend against it?

So far in my research I have found that a number of things contribute to the fear of insects, no one thing seems to be blameable. however, my earlier research into media representations of insects was very useful in identifying the fear experienced and how it might be fostered in a collective society, so I am going to look into Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka because of the reactions to it rather than the story its self.
