OUGD406 Studio Brief 01 Lyric Analysis

There were a couple of parts which caught my eye:

-The words "won't lie" could mean both telling a lie and lying down, in the sense of given up in the face of a challenge.

- "Your troubles must be seen to see through, money like its paper with faces I remember"
This could be taken to convey the idea that money and the system based on it is merely a dream. It points out the strange illusion everyone must be under to believe that mere paper with faces on could help people, could really change anything. I want to take this on by looking at money visually and the processes used to create it.

-The chorus 'Karmacoma, Jamaica aroma" is probably alluding to weed but it also established this slow almost hypnotising beat which runs throughout the song creating a sense os slow calm dizziness and confusion.

-"emotional ties, they stay severed" This has a strong visual element to it but I will need to think further about how to represent it. This could tie in to the way the title of the song suggests entrapment somehow.
-Another thing was the constant repetition of the idea of digging a hole. this seems a bit odd but to be honest so does the rest of the song.

I think the main thing I have gained from this exercise is that perhaps this song doesn't need a deep analysis or to be understood. The overriding essence of it is the complexity and that it could mean so many different things to different people and what those who listen to it enjoy is the picking apart to understand it. So, finding the meaning and putting it on a plate won't real work. If I choose one of the themes and try to create something that reflects the strange tone and confusing lyrics of the song.
