OUGD401 Context of Practice Brief 02 First Thoughts.

As an accompaniment to our essays we have been asked to cease a publication with the angle of 'A brief history of...' expanding on the themes introduced in our essay.

Because the subject of my essay was how the arts and crafts movement was informed and shaped by the social and cultural circumstances of the time, there are a number of developmental directions I could take this project in.

To get to grips with this brief I went back and read my essay looking for point upon which i could expand on a visual basis.

My most promising direction is looking at the 'fine craft' of graphic design, in the sense of high labour production methods tat are really hands on. For example, print making. This could be expanded on for the specific content of the publication by using the publication as a documentation of the reverence designers have for these products through the way that marks of the production method have started to become the focus of the aesthetic of many designs. To really get a more solid idea of the direction I want to go in I will need to do some research into some more production methods and some studios that specialise in these areas. As well as print making I want to look into etching, lithograph printing and screen print.
