Before I watch the film I wanted to look at the actual poster.
The stark black white and red colour scheme when combined with the typographic choices is clearly a reference to the aesthetic of graphic novels. The whole thing has a sense of movement to it created by the depth illusion of the layered images of the characters as well as the driving rain. The use of rain creates a sense of distance between the onlooker and the characters because of the way it directs the eye away from their faces and down to the title of the film. The rain also creates a sense of an unforgiving environment, in the simplest terms an unpleasantness is inherent in this poster but in a gritty real way. in this sense this poster really effectively communicates the essence of the film to the onlooker and pro messes excitement (the movement) and violence (the red white and black colour scheme).
