Studio Brief 04 Electrical Dependence OUGD403

In the previous post The project took a turn towards looking at the body as its own power station. This in its self is a strong image and could be very effective. However, The concept of our dependence upon electricity got me thinking about how the national grid could look like the human circulatory system. Below is a night time image of London, I wanted to look at these kinds of images because they so accurately look at where electricity is used in a geographical sense. They are also used to show civilisation as a concept which I think says quite a lot for the dependence we have on electricity.
A simplified version of the national grid is shown below. Once again what struck me was its similarities to the circulatory system, this could be worked into the typographic poster by cutting the map outlines out of the letter forms.

In turn this concept has brought me to the idea of the shape and details of electrical items such as chip board. These could be shaped into type, connected so as to suggest the current of electricity.

The image of electrical micro chips is something that a lot of people are familiar with and the use of it, possibly in small subtle aspects of the type poster, should effectively communicate the use of electricity. This combined with the words used on the poster should give an effective suggestion of our dependence on electricity.

I thought it might be profitable to look into electrical diagram symbols. These could be used with or as part of a design representing the human body as an electrical network, clearly showing our base dependence upon electricity.
