After the interim crit I decided to focus on our dependence on electricity. So I started with looking at the statistics of what we use electricity for day to day.
The main thing that stood out was that heating is such a large fraction of the energy that we use. This surprised me not only because so many houses now have extra forms of heating such as wood burners but also because often simply putting on a jumper would do it. Possibly we have become acclimatised to much warmer houses simply because the heat is available.
This could feed into my designs in a comical sense. For example, using pictogram equations showing different ways to get heat, one being the long winded electrical way or simply by putting on a jumper. This suggests that the body could be a replacement for the generator leading to another visual idea (a drawing replacing parts of the body with electrical parts and generators) to show that we can solve our own energy problems.
