OUGD406 Studio Brief 02 Research into Dyslexia

After the last lot of research I found that a common problem that occurs is the confusion and mixing up of the words and this seemed like an interesting idea to develop on visually so I wanted to find some examples of the words that are confused.

-lemons and Melons
-where and were
-there and their

any words which other sound the same or look similar. So I did some research into homonyms and the threw up some interesting ones. they got me thinking about the idea of a 'tongue twyster' twitter feed of some sought where the words are flipped and switched to put the reader in the place of someone suffering from dyslexia.

-pair and pear
-to, two and too
-bow and bough
-lead and led

-bass (fish) and bass (sound)

where the homonyms are spelled the same but sons different we could create tong twister with visual typographic hints so that it is obvious that the words are in the wrong places. I think this would outline the fact that often what dyslexic people find difficult to understand, everyone else does too because to be honest this stuff is confusing! I will have to do some thumbnail sketches to convey this complex idea to everyone else in the group.

This got me thinking about the research into typography and the way that we read only the first and last letter of words. Could our messages be done like this, in such a way that is un noticeable to start with but gradually become apparent. This would suggest the idea that dyslexia is everywhere but not really a big deal. However, to do this I would need to look into how this works and consider what part distance and size plays, because it might only work in lower case body copy because this creates the most distinct shape to words.
