OUGD406 Studio Brief 02 Research into Typography Blogs

Because we will be producing a typographic blog I wanted to look at the existing ones to try and create something that had a unique selling point. Typophile is one such blog.
This functions more like a forum for designers than anything else. Anyone can post and ask questions, which is great but it means there is very little mediation of content so there is no guarantee that it is any good. It also has quite a bland safe aesthetic which panders to the sober and dull image many people have of typography.

Typography served is another blog that has caught my attention of late. Although the aesthetic is very image based , which I like and think works for creative audiences, it still has this lack lustre image. There is no text with the posts and although this could be seen as a good thing I would also say that some upbeat written information would really help the blog pin down its tone of voice rather than just seeming like an archive.

I think when it comes to our blog we should aim to inform students about the exciting side of typography with a fun written tone of voice and a non threatening aesthetic. We could have multiple platforms for student exposure and learning resources.
