OUGD401 Context of Practice Brief 02 Rationale

As a practical expansion on the content of my essay I intent to create a concertina fold book of approximately A5 format which has a selection of letter press print work on one side of each page. On the reverse will be a graphic displaying all the lines and constraints and by extension the work and time that goes into creating each piece. Implicit in this is the comparison of print with the arts and crafts, suggesting that print is our modern equivalent as a reaction to the digital revolution. To bring attention to this I will use digital methods to print the content to purposefully create a sense of wrongness in a digital version of something that should be letterpress and therefore underline its importance as a production method and craft. The overall look of the piece will be clean and crisp; just like print as a production method and the work it is so famous for turning out.
